Flaine is an exceptional resort founded in the 60s, which blends art, design, and architecture. Developed with some of the latest technological features, such as hidden electric cables, it also homes a monumental sculpture park. Listed resort and open air museum

Flaine is a unique resort as it blends art, design, and architecture to create an open-air modern art museum. Built in the sixties in a collaboration between Eric and Sylvie Boissonnas and the famous architect, Marcel Breuer, the resort aimed to blend harmoniously into the surrounding relief without altering the natural landscape. Their innovative vision gave birth to some remarkable technological features such as a network of hidden electric cables, a completely pedestrian resort centre and the first ‘snow factory’ in Europe. What’s more, the ski area was designed by Emile Allais, a legend of skiing. In the heart of Flaine, a park of monumental sculptures impresses visitors, containing major works of art such as “Le Boqueteau” by Jean Dubuffet, “La tête de Femme” by Pablo Picasso and “Les Trois Hexagones” by Victor Vasarely.

Flaine summer pass

During the summer season, Flaine invites you to take advantage of all the ‘Pass Flaine été’ has to offer. It gives you access to a wide range of sporting and cultural activities, guaranteeing unforgettable experiences. On the agenda: trampoline, big air bag, giant games, biathlon, tennis courts, basketball, mini-golf, yoga classes, Zumba, crossfit and much more!

A car-free resort

Flaine is a resort with very few cars. The principle is simple: park your car in the dedicated car parks at the entrance of the resort, or in the Alhéna underground car park and leave it there for the rest of your stay. The centre is completely pedestrianized. Shops, services, and ski lifts are accessible on foot which means that the whole family can get around hassle-free. The 3 different parts of the resort “Flaine-Forêt” (1 700 m), “Flaine Forum” (1 600 m) and “Flaine-Front de Neige” (1 500 m) are linked by 2 outdoor lifts and 2 pedestrian paths.

Promoting classical music

A classical music festival and masterclass has been organised here since 2013. In collaboration with the intercommunal association and Flaine cultural centre the Opus74 organisation is committed to giving equal access to classical music to all. Every year around a dozen free concerts are organised during the last two weeks of July, as well as presentations of the different instruments, aimed at younger children, in partnership with the Tourist Office.

The Grand Massif ski area

With 64 slopes and 24 ski lifts, the ski area of Flaine is an unmatched playground for winter sports’ enthusiasts, with many activities such as alpine skiing and freeride, all in a stunning, unspoilt setting. Situated in the Grand Massif ski area along with Les Carroz, Samoëns, Morillon and Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval, Flaine is the highest resort in an area that has a total of 265km of slopes at altitudes between 1100 and 2500 metres. From the summit of the Grand Platières, at a remarkable altitude, the view of Mont-Blanc, the Aravis, Belledonne and Jura mountains is simply stunning.
