A spectacular discipline, included in the 2026 Olympic programme

6th and final round of the season! From the 6th to the 9th of April 2022, the finals of the Ski Mountaineering World Cup will be taking place. Organised by the French Mountain and Climbing Federation (FFME), the ISMF and with the support of the 27th Battalion of Alpine Chasseurs of Annecy, this sporting event will take place in Flaine, a resort which already hosted the world's ski mountaineering elite last year during the 3rd date of the World Cup circuit. The discipline, which combines endurance, off-piste descents and mountaineering techniques, has been booming for the past 10 years. A competitive version of ski touring, it has just been added as an "additional sport" for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.

Three events will make up the finals of this World Cup:

  • individual run (06/04)
This race is also known as the queen run with 1800 meters of positive elevation change! The athletes have to complete a succession of ascents and descents as quickly as possible with passages by foot and skis on their backs on steep terrain.

  • vertical race (07/04)
This is a direct, dry climb with a 700-metre elevation gain.

  • sprint (08/04 & 09/04)
This event is both the shortest and the most intense! Sliding, manipulations, conversions, descent, strategy... a true summary of all aspects of ski mountaineering, it only lasts 4 minutes!

Flaine, a popular destination in the heart of the Alps

Nestled at an altitude of 1,600 metres, between Geneva and Chamonix, Flaine offers direct access to the Grand Massif, the 5th largest ski area with ski-in ski-out access. Renowned for its excellent snow cover and exceptional sunshine, the Grand Massif (1,600-2,500 m) is home to the French ski teams who come to train until mid-April! The athletes of the Ski Mountaineering World Cup will have the chance to perform each of the events in a magnificent setting, dominated by Mont Blanc! Built in the heart of a huge natural cirque, Flaine is full of environmental treasures. Famous for its bold architecture and raw concrete, it is considered the most artistic resort in France. In particular, it exhibits permanent monumental and architectural works.

MGM is dedicated to offering the best of the mountain to its clients. This is why the Haute-Savoie constructor carefully chooses the locations of its residences. Between Flaine Forum and Flaine Front de Neige, a brand new MGM programme will take root, consisting of a hotel and a tourist residence: Alhéna. Right in the heart of the pedestrian resort, this luxury development will have a ski in/ski out access for the greatest pleasure of ski lovers! Inspired by the DNA of Flaine, the residence will blend in perfectly with its environment thanks to its uniquely modern architecture.

The upscale project will consist of 48 flats, from 2- to 3-room flats. Modern and spacious, the flats will all be furnished, equipped and decorated with refinement. They will benefit from beautiful openings extended by large balconies and a unique view of the surrounding mountains. To enhance the stay of the owners and their guests, MGM has integrated a restaurant, a nursery and a wellness area (swimming pool, hammam, sauna, hot tubs, gym, Montagnes du Monde® Spa).
