Since 2005, the « Grande Odyssée » has been a must. This year, the European annual event for sled dogs, takes place in January 11th to 22nd. It all start in Samoëns, with the traditional Prologue, a day dedicated to this high altitude activities where micro-conferences, animations and fireworks are planned.

As a unique event, this Odyssey crosses the most beautiful alpine scenery offering a privileged setting for the 25 European mushers and their 400 athletic dogs. This sporting event also represents the most demanding stage of the discipline, world champion in technicality and brings together no less than 50,000 spectators every year! 

During each of the 10 stages, highlights are planned: awareness of the world of sled dogs, ice sculptures and igloo building. Among the stopovers of this extraordinary competition are 20 resorts, towns and villages in the heart of the snowy landscapes of the Savoie Mont Blanc region.

The novelty of this 16th edition? Valmorel is one of the destinations for stage 6, where film screenings and an introduction to driving dogsled for the children will be on offer. The start of the race is scheduled at 4pm at Valmorel ski resort on the toboggan run.
