The new ski season is nearly here!

In Tignes, we ski before..and after everyone else!

This first weekend of October, Tignes has opened it's first slopes for the 2015/2016 ski season, marking the official opening of the 2015/2016 winter season.

It is on the famous Grande-Motte glacier that ski enthusiasts will take their first runs down. These skiers and boarders can enjoy 40 cm of fresh snow which has fallen since the beginning of the month, on the highest part of the glacier, at over 3 400 m altitude.
Wish the ski season went on longer? In Tignes, you can ski until the 8th May 2016!

Tignes, first ski area to be awarded the Green Globe certificate

Green GlobeTignesGreen Globe is an international certification which recognises touristic associations which are engaged in durable development. The certification has been awarded to 450 companies and touristic entities in over 40 countries worldwide. Tignes has just joined this long list, however it is the first time a ski domain has been awarded with this distinction.

With its 150km of ski slopes perfectly integrated into the countryside, the resort has been recognised for its respect of the surrounding environment. The lift company of Tignes STGM (Société des telepheriques de la Grande Motte), is passionate about reducing it's impact on the environment. Since 2008, more than 100 ski lift pylons have been removed. By regularly renewing the bus system STGM has improved the public transport available in Tignes. In addition, a lot has been invested in biodiversity programs helping to preserve the fauna and wild alpine flowers.

As well as an emphasis on the ecosystem, the Green Globe certification champions local economic development. Tignes has managed to develop buying and recruitment that supports the local business infrastructure. .

After last year's award "Qualite Tourisme" this is yet another feather in Tignes' bow which further enhances it's reputation as one of the best in the world.
